Tasty Burger moving out of one of the last single-story buildings on Boylston Street in the Fenway

Boston Restaurant Talk reports Tasty Burger, which opened at 1301 Boylston St. at Jersey Street when that stretch of Boylston mostly consisted of fast-food joints, gas stations and garages, is moving around the corner to Van Ness Street.

The nearly half-acre Boylston parcel - itself home to a gas station before Tasty Burger opened in 2010 - is assessed at $5.8 million, and is owned by developer Samuels and Associates. The company has long been active in redeveloping Boylston Street into its current shape as a series of mid-rise towers, most recently with plans to replace the Star Market with an 11-story life-sciences building.

We lost so many great places in that area because of development. Too bad that is not one of them.

But, McDonald's, Burger King, Dominos, and D'Angelo's?

I was never a patron of the Ramrod but I know people had fun there. It is also the place pre cell phones where I would send people in Yankee hats when I was asked where was a fun bar around Fenway. Everyone I knew who went there said it was fun, so why wouldn't a Yankee fan have fun there.

However, the development that is on Boylston Street now has been in the works since the late 1980's and has given the area needed housing, retail, and restaurant space as opposed to suburban parking lots and drive thru fast food space.

You will still be able to get Sullivans-Sur-Fenway around the corner. No need to worry.

When I was at BLA from 1984-1990, the area was more industrial, but was also more of an outflow for the Sox fans outside of the former Yawkey Way. One time during senior year, people would sneak over during their senior lounge time to McDonalds for a quick meal, but then the Senior Lounge got closed a couple of weeks because of this transgression.

And sending Yankees fans to the Ramrod? John, this is pure genius :-)

I sent them to the Ramrod.

22 Rings they used to boast about then, encountering guys with 22 piercings in the men's room must have kinship.

Yes, I did misread that. I've fixed my original post.

There were a couple of places at BLA that, if you were at the right floor at the right side of the building, you could surreptitiously watch patrons go in and out of that bar until the teachers caught us (the teachers got smart and put up shades). A few daring souls (not me) would boldly go in there and ask where their dads were before being chased out.

So you were there when Landmark Center was just closed as the Sears distribution site but before it's current iteration... What was that like? It's such a large hulking presence and at the time it would have been more so without all the large buildings. I don't recall ever being over near there except for the occasional Red Sox game so I don't have any memory of it at all until I went to go do some freelance work in there in the 2000s

Our charter bus passed by the building every day and compared to the remainder of the area it was huge. They closed it in 1988 and it was vacant for a long time; my aunt worked in the accounting department there and I think she retired the same year.

You were Blue Oyster Club'ing them, weren't you?

I can tell you, I never saw cheek to cheek dancing at the Ramrod (or Machine). Now cheek to cheek with other things... yeah maybe.

And besides why send'em there? Just tell'em the shortcut back to the T is to walk thru the magical victory gardens... especially at night and take the back path near the river cuz its 'scenic' and quicker. *wink*

One glimpse of the Night of the HornyToads and they'll run out of there.

Honestly I drove past it twice in August and was trying to figure out what the deal was with this space. I also thought it was wicked cool and just assumed Tasty Burger was using it as a billboard of sorts like how banks like to set up in Harvard Square near Harvard. It is too bad because it does look really cool with it's old school vibe sitting among the mega towers.

By a hotel. Then the pandemic happened.

That lot has been slated for redevelopment since the gas station closed - Tasty Burger set up shop in there temporarily and for some reason it’s taken more than a decade to start building there. I think they were originally expecting to be there a year or two at most.

This makes sense. The Tasty Burger aesthetic makes it look like it's been there forever so I can see why newer residents would just assume it was some sort of long time landmark. I remember that gas station used to do game day parking and if I recall they might have even closed on game day to park more cars but maybe someone can confirm if I was just remembering wrong.

We owned that strip back in the day when people actually enjoyed dancing with everyone to music that made you not help but move to the rhythmn. My friends went to the gay men's danceclubs because the music was the best, the drinks were the best, we could dress to the 9s without having to deal with being harrassed by bros in sneakers with no class or fashion sense. Hey 1270 alumni!! Haaaaaaayyy!!!

No surprise really.. it was only a matter of time really. Too big of a plot of land to just have a small building and a ton of parking when there's high-rises all around you.

I'm placing bets on when The Verb "Hotel" goes (aka the old Howard Johnsons). 1960s fabulous, updated for the new millennium. Yeah it will eventually go. Every one has a price.

I also think the building that CVS & Guitar Center is. Same style as the Ramrod building and its doesn't have any historical significance so it eventually will be replaced with a high rise.

And to think it wasn't that long ago when it wasn't all high-rises. The first street view images from 2008 in Google Maps StreetView of that area still show the old buildings. So alot has changed in a short amount of time.
