Rendering of the Pot

Rendeirng by Port One Design.

The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved the Pot, a marijuana shop proposed for 532-542 River St. in Mattapan Square.

The shop, which won approval of the Boston Cannabis Board in October, now goes to the state Cannabis Control Commission for the last major approval it needs before it can begin.

Applicant Dru Ledbetter, said the store would be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 am to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The Greater Mattapan Neighborhood Council and City Councilors Ricardo Arroyo (Mattapan, Hyde Park, Roslindale), Ruthzee Louijeune (at large) and Erin Murphy (at large) supported the proposal. Nobody spoke against.

I was too lazy to Google it and relied on my diminishing memory. It's Kevin, of course.

Is River Street really Mattapan Square though? I never think of River Street when I think Mattapan Square. Blue Hill Avenue is where Mattapan Square is and like most squares in Boston it is not square shaped at all.

@adamg might be an interesting story:
"Why aren't Boston Squares square?"

The Square is the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue, River St., and Cummins Hwy. How would a street that is right in the middle of that not be a part of that? Further, most noteworthy squares in Boston, refer not only to the actual intersection of key streets, but a few blocks radiating out from the Square in multiple directions. Mattapan Square is such a Square.

I appreciate the explanation but what you describe sounds more like a triangle. j/k.

I wonder if we call them squares because that's what the colonists were used to in England?
