Update: Suspect charged.
Boston Police report a 68-year-old woman unloading her SUV on Deckard Street in Roxbury was attacked by a man who first smacked her in the back of her head with an object, then, as she fought back, stabbed her in the chest, around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The man - who initially approached the woman as if to help her with her unloading. After he smacked her in the head, police say she fought back by punching and kicking him - and screaming for help - police say.
As a result, the suspect disengaged and fled the area on foot.
The woman was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered life threatening, police say.
The suspect is described as White, heavy set and in his 30s, about 5'6" with "a groomed salt and pepper beard." He was wearing a green khaki jacket with a matching backpack.
This is at least the second time this year a man tried to rob a senior woman in Roxbury only to have his victim fight back. On Oct. 11, civil-rights leader Jean McGurie, 91, was attacked as she walked her dog through Franklin Park. She fought her attacker off, but not before he stabbed her several times.
