Man arrested for taking a snooze in his car on an I-93 onramp in Sullivan Square - and for being drunk and having a loaded gun - DA says

A Transit Police officer who happened on a car just sitting on a Sullivan Square onramp up to I-93 north early Monday wound up arresting the driver, who was asleep behind the wheel with the lights off but the motor running, a gun loaded with eight rounds in the car with him, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

James Charles Knight, 45, of Cambridge, now faces charges that include OUI and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute, the DA's office says.

According to the DA's office:

At about 4:15 a.m. on Monday an MBTA police officer came upon a blue Lexus with its headlights off at the I-93 north ramp in Sullivan Square. Numerous cars were behind the Lexus, honking to get by. The officer drove his cruiser next to the vehicle and noticed the driver, Knight, asleep with the car running. The officer engaged his horn and siren to wake Knight, to no avail. The officer then exited his cruiser and saw Knight’s vehicle, which was not in park, start to move forward with Knight still asleep. The officer awoke Knight by banging on the car’s hood.

Charlestown Municipal Court Judge Lisa Ann Grant ordered Knight held in lieu of $10,000 bail and ordered him to stay out of Charlestown should he make bail, the DA's office reports.

Innocent, etc.

"Stay out of Charlestown! As for your drivers license? This is America so I'm not going to take it away apparently. Hope you don't kill too many people with your vehicle and guns!"

The office of the District Attorney and the Transit Police working together instead of bad-mouthing each other on social media.

What good sense he had to take a nap instead of taking the other drugs he had on him. As for doing it on an active motorway, that's a beginner mistake right there.
