Frozen Charles lets somebody heave another traffic cone on the river

Cone atop the Charles River off the Mass. Ave. bridge

Remember last year when the state used traffic cones to mark off some bike lanes on the Mass. Ave. Bridge and somebody didn't like them and tossed them onto the frozen Charles River? A roving UHub photographer discovered today that some low-energy bike-lane hater tried to replicate that, only gave up after just one cone.

Can’t the culprit at least to land the cone standing upright on the ice?

One cone could be just an idiot messing around, rather than a political statement.

Clearly the work of a criminal driver here with an axe to grind.

… would have required more walking than the average driver can manage.

So either this was a driver whose weak and achy seat adapted body would not allow a full lane destruction.
Or just a random healthy walking or bike riding prankster.
There might be your standard no opinion secret cone haters out there too.

I vote for a biker wearing too tight of a kit (all too frequent) and they could only muster one cone before they ripped it. The cones were probably in ‘their’ bike lane and they went nuclear.

Should be a reminder to actually build bike lanes up to the global standard (which the MA design standards correspond to even if we still rarely see anything built to that standard) and use permanent physical barriers to protect bike lanes not flimsy plastic shit that breaks in a week and ends up polluting our ecosystems. Also flex posts and cones will not stop a speeding vehicle and should not be considered “protected” at all.

from the MIT frats along Bay State Road and Beacon Street, back to the MIT main campus area (and its frats), you have to walk over that bridge.

So it was probably drunk students being students. Hahaha it would be SO FUNNY if we THREW this cone into the RIVER!
