Savin Hill could get new American restaurant in new residential building

Joey Arcari

Developer and restaurant owner Joey Arcari says he hopes to open a 40-seat restaurant with "full service American cuisine" in the new residential building he's building at 1121 Dorchester Ave. in Dorchester.

If approved by the Boston Licensing Board at a meeting tomorrow, Arcari would buy the liquor license from the operators of Tavitas in South Station - a rare example of a liquor license moving from Boston Proper to one of the outer neighborhoods. He plans to call his new restaurant the Dorchester.

Arcari's attorney, Ryan Spitz, told the licensing board today Arcari is looking at hours of 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekends - with the restaurant's windows closed at 11 p.m. An outdoor patio would be open until 11 p.m.

This is exciting, though the building is not built yet. Just a fenced off empty lot right now.

You obviously haven't been by that address lately? It's fenced off but certainly not an empty lot.

Dorchester Avenue should be absolutely peppered from top to bottom with small, owner-operated restaurants that have full liquor licenses serving the residential areas on and to the sides of that major thoroughfare.

That it doesn't is a huge spotlight on the problem with the state government not fixing the issues at the core of what creates the artificial market for those licenses in the city.

"The Dorchester" is a terrible and dumb name for any restaurant around here, let alone one that will serve American cuisine in the city's most diverse neighborhood, but that's just like my opinion man.

Ask neighbors in Southie how he blows them off when they complain about his drunken asshole customers. BTW "The Dorchester" is not only presumptuous, it's unimaginative.
