Progressive group to hold forum for two 10th Suffolk candidates, says the third doesn't want in

Progressive West Roxbury/Roslindale holds a forum tonight for Rob Orthman or Roslindale and Celia Segel of Jamaica Plain, who are running in the May 2 Democratic primary for the 10th Suffolk state representative's seat Ed Coppinger recently resigned from.

Yep, there's another candidate, William MacGregor of West Roxbury, but, the group says he's now as dead to them as they apparently are to him:

After 8 attempts to invite him to talk with our interview team and/or fill out our questionnaire and attend our forum, we have given up. Election season, when candidates need our votes, is usually the easiest time to get their attention. He has conveyed in no uncertain terms that he is running to be only some people's state rep, not everyone's.

The forum begins at 7 p.m., on Zoom. The group has a 100-person limit on Zoom, so it will also be streaming it live on Facebook.

And avoiding a fringe group who don’t represent the vast majority of the area.

Take a look at who won this district for mayor. You'll see it was not Annissa. But keep thinking you're the majority.

would be quick, simple, and hardly indicates an endorsement of the group requesting it. I'm not sure what benefit this avoidance has there.

Did I miss the episode of Fringe where this group was the scientific-magical culprit?

There was a time when Republicans of the ante-bellum US were fringe. They were so fringy that they actually thought slavery was a bad thing and should stop. Those fringers. Stirring up controversies, acting like the world - or our tiny part of it - should actually be one where silly concepts such as fairness and justice are part of life.

The nerve!

There aren’t a lot of opportunities for voters to learn about local elections so it’s not a good sign if MacGregor is refusing to engage. Even if he seems like the conservative candidate in this race and a progressive group is running it, he should still at least show up for the hour.

MacGregor has worked in this community for a decade in constituent services.
he knows full well what this group stands for, and this group knows him also. I’m sure he’s helped them and attended dozens of their meeting and aided in ways over the last 10 years in his previous position in City Hall. The Insinuation that they somehow don’t know him is absurd.

So the guy Liz Malia endorsed won’t show up at a JP candidate’s forum? Yuck.

It sounds ridiculously self-important, but they're not wrong. These elections are sometimes decided by fewer than 100 votes and almost always by less than a 1,000. It's telling when a candidate doesn't take any opportunity to spread name recognition far and wide.

Yes. Those elections are won by voter ID and GOTV. And cookies and driving seniors to the polls in vans.
Of course you need campaign supporters to do that, but not hard if you have elected official endorsements and have built a base.

They're entitled to their ideology but they are not into giving people a fair hearing. They really showed who they are when they went all-in for the credibly accused predator Arroyo.

100 person limit on Zoom and absolute moderator control and filtering of questions.

Plenty of venues available.

Smells like "OMG Covid we can't have any public gatherings!" or just control freaks.

Just control freaks.

If they don't have the money for a pro Zoom subscription, they probably don't have the money for a venue.

with zoom for the zoombies, and just ignore them all, like all the Boston boards conducting their "public" meetings have done since this madness started?
