Abortion pill will remain available in Massachusetts, Healey says

As expected, a federal judge in Texas overturned FDA approval of mifepristone. Gov. Maura Healey said tonight it will remain available in Massachusetts:

Medication abortion is safe, effective and legal. Mifepristone has been used safely for more than 20 years and is the gold standard. This is yet another attempt by extremists to ban abortion nationwide. But we are prepared to take immediate action to protect access to this important medication. Patients in Massachusetts will continue to have access to mifepristone. We stand for civil rights and freedom, and we will always protect access to reproductive health care.

Healey said she will detail her plans to keep the pills available in Massachusetts Monday afternoon.

If it comes to that, because while that one judge in Texas was issuing his ruling, another judge in Washington state was ordering the FDA to keep the drug on the market.

Now instead of getting a safe medication from a doctor or pharmacy, women can meet someone on the street to buy some unmarked pills and hope for the best.
