Two dogs Roxbury woman is charged with starving are doing much better and are ready for adoption, MSPCA says

The MSPCA reports that Jobee, a dog that was among the worst cases of intentional animal starvation the group says it has ever seen, and a second dog, Remy, who was also taken by the MSPCA, have recovered enough that they are now ready for adoption.

The two dogs were were recovered in July on Ernst Street in Roxbury. Their owner, Lakeida Burris, 36, currently faces animal-cruelty charges for her treatment of Jobee - starved to the point of death. Remy was also found severely malnourished, the group says.

Jobee, a 3-year-old pittie who is currently in foster care, is "now just a normal happy boy" and ready for adoption into a home where he would be the only pet, the MSPCA says.

Remy, who got less attention when he was recovered, is also available. A 4-year-old pit bull terrier mix, got less attention than the completely emaciated Jobee, but is also now ready for a forever home:

"Remy was underweight when she came to us, although not nearly as underweight as Jobee," explained MSPCA-Angell Director of Adoption Centers and Programs, Mike Keiley. "We use a scale of one to nine to evaluate dogs’ body fat, and Remy was only a two."

"But, we got her on a refeeding plan and treated some skin issues she also had, so she’s in a much better spot now."

She is looking for a home with adopters who will be patient as she gets to know her new space. She can live with children and potentially a well-matched dog.
