Boston Police report a man was stabbed in the back and shoulder at the city shelter at 112 Southampton St. around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday.
Police say officers stationed outside the shelter rushed in and quickly arrested Alexander Aulet, 40, of Fitchburg, on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Perp is from Fitchburg
Can other towns, all of them in fact besides Boston provide shelters please so Boston doesn't end up with such a large concentration of the needy....maybe someday
You know
He probably didn't come to Boston expressly for the shelter.
Probably not
But if all towns and cities had shelters and support systems less people would come to Boston needing help and the numbers would be much more manageable making successful treatment more likely.
are they coming for help?
or the wider assortment of street drugs without any hassle from LEO? can drugs be bought and used openly in places like fitchburg?
tell me you've never been to fitchburg
Tell me you've never been to fitchburg without telling me you've never been to fitchburg.
Fitchburg is awful about this. Its one of the more harder hit towns outside 495 by the opioid crisis outside of the city centers like Lowell, New Bedford, etc.
Downtown Fitchburg seemed really empty
when I last visited, compared to other small city centers such as the two you mentioned, Lowell and New Bedford. Lots of empty storefronts.
Most other municipalities . . . .
won’t tolerate the open drug use and distribution, the open prostitution, continuous criminal activity, and physical violence that Boston is willing to accept.
If you are not willing to enforce laws, don’t complain about your neighbors that do.
Many surrounding towns also provide shelter and addiction services.
That would be a good idea.
If other cities and towns in the Commonwealth provided shelter and other necessities for their own needy residents, it would place considerably less of a burden on Boston.
It's good that the suspect was arrested right away, but,
I still think that if other cities and towns here in the Commonwealth should share the burden of sheltering their own residents in need, so that the shelters in Boston would not be so overcrowded.
The Mile
This whole thing needs more study time.
And consultants.
Many more consultants.
Exhibit A
for why so many homeless people won't go to shelters.
