Mark Smith surveyed some of the fruit now coloring the plants at the Arnold Arboretum.
Are they edible by people?
The first is bleeding heart, the second is beautyberry. Both have medicinal uses in their native regions, but they don’t taste very good.
But regardless, if you mean these particular shrubs, I would point out that foraging is expressly forbidden in the Arb.
Tell that to the rats.
