The ultimate in locavore dining

David Ertischek reports Skara Grill on Centre Street in West Roxbury is growing its own tomatoes - on stakes in their own parking lot (can you imagine the old Friendly's doing that?).

Growing food in a parking lot, where cars have parked for decades and there's probably all sorts of contaminants? Have they tested the soil? What happens when it rains and the runoff from the parking lot spills over into the area?

Used motor oil is a known carcinogen...so is antifreeze!

Skara Grill Sucks anyway. There was all the hype leading up to the grand opening, and when the doors opened they had nothing that was on the menu( for weeks) Foods nasty even for greek.
i will never go back. put Friendlys back..It's a no brainer

"No brainer", what a perfect term to sum up your comment. Skara spent a lot of time and money on opening a beautiful new restaurant in a space (like many in our neighborhood) that was long empty. Try and respect the effort and commitment, I'm sorry you couldn't get a Fribble but it's time to move on.

And Anon ("afraid of soil"), please grow a pair.

IT SUCKS. So ("Skara spent a lot of time and money on opening a beautiful new restaurant in a space that was long empty") NO WONDER ITS OVER PRICED.!! maybe if they spent the money on good food, or trained the employees on customer service the place would be half as good
SO IF YOU'RE IN THE MOOD FOR UNDER COOKED FOOD, SMALL PORTIONS,THE RUN-AROUND SERVICE THATS THE PLACE.… I'd take a Fribble any day over that place

...is that you'd prefer to see a vacant lot rather than a restaurant in the space? There's a reason Friendly's left...I'm sure the city didn't kick them out. If you had a poor experience there, don't go back...but that doesn't change the fact that a occupied space is always preferable to the alternative.

You know why Friendly's isn't there anymore? Because it sucked.

At the risk of repeating myself, it's almost impossible to find a neighborhood with a demographic better suited to a Friendly's than West Roxbury: Lots of families with kids.

But eventually those families got tired of endless waits with increasingly frantic kids for such monumentally complex dishes as a burger with fries or a scoop of ice cream. That's why I started balking whenever the kidlet wanted to go there. My wife started taking her there less when the alleged managers there got rid of the two or three half-decent servers they did have. And so it failed, as it should. The only remarkable thing was how long it hung on.

I've eaten there twice, once for dinner, and once for lunch, and the food was good both times. Yes, the dinner menu is expensive, especially when compared to every other restaurant in West Roxbury (except maybe the Steak Place Where the Waving Chicken Used to Be). You've obviously had a bad experience at Skara. So don't go there anymore.

.... AND WONT BE GOING ANY MORE... Just letting people know that for the price, quality, and service.(oh, and dont forget the new meal tax) in this economy it really isn't worth it.. Theres soo many other great Restaurants in West roxbury!!

I think you've made your point. You're just going to have to come to grips with the fact that not everybody agrees with it.
