Fire on Ashford Street in Allston injures one resident, displaces eight

67 Ashford St. on fire

The Boston Fire Department reports a three-alarm fire reported at 65 Ashford St. around 2 a.m. on Saturday injured one resident and caused an estimated $2 million in damage.

Several firefighters suffered minor injures battling the blaze, which at its height broke through the roof and caused commanders on scene to order all firefighters out of the building.

The heat from the fire melted the siding at the house next door at 67 Ashford St., the department reports.

Boston University reports the occupants were all BU students, who now have to find a new place to live.

That looks like a total loss. That is to say repairs can be done to the existing structure but it looks like it will take a really long time. Just imagine the water damage alone.

This house is within eyeshot of my own. As a matter of fact, I happened to wake up around 3 Saturday morning and smelled something burning. Searched my house upstairs and down, even checked the basement, but couldn't find where the smell was coming from. It wasn't till I got back to my room that I thought to pull the curtains aside to see if it was coming from outside, and was shocked to see fire trucks and a crowd of firefighters in the street!

The flames shooting out of the roof were truly frightening, and I am glad that all of the tenants got out and that the firefighters managed to keep it from spreading to any of the adjacent buildings.

In any case, I doubt it can be repaired. The roof is almost entirely gone, and most of one quarter of the second floor is as well.
