That my ice machine is producing slush since my apartment is like the surface of the sun right now, only more humid.

which I believe is more hours than I put on it in the entirety of last summer.

The AC still can't keep up, but the apartment is comfortable enough right now that I'm doubly not looking forward to the walk to client's this morning.

I think the worst part is the fact that after its hot like this for a few days the buildings suck the heat up so it essentially becomes like a brick oven. Even with the AC on it's like trying to cool the inside of your oven with a bucket of ice after baking a cake all day.

when the temps drop in the evening, you fire it up and bring the whole house down (and the attic as well, where the WWF vents to) to semi-sane temperatures, and THEN you switch on the AC.

Attic fans also make a huge difference- my grandmother had one that ran on a thermostat, and it kept the house quite cool even during some hot temps.

That would be nice if it actually did cool off at night, but I checked the temp. curve on our rooftop weather station (Winter Hill, Somerville) and there was a long slow slope overnight that bottomed out at 6am at 75 degrees. At midnight it was still 80 - and that won't cool the house much!

Though I did sleep OK with the window fan that blows right across our bed, the first thing I did when I got up, which is usually to open the downstairs windows (closed overnight for security), was to keep everything closed downstairs and fire up the AC units!

(At 6 it started ramping back up, to 95 by 10:30 where it stayed all day until 5pm, though on calmish sunny days it reads a bit high because of the black rubber roof - according to our other thermometer it was really "only" 93.)

Yeah, Ive got venting fans and they do not work when the temps do not drop. That is the problem, when it is really hot for a day I can normally get my place down to a reasonable temp at night but not when its hot for days at a time and never dips below 75. I am at the point where even the water in my pipes is coming in luke warm when I can normally get nice cool water out of the faucet.

We remain committed to living life witout air conditioning -- but on days like this we do wish we had this modern convenience.

... being in an office has become the better option, what with the air conditioning and all.

I got to work an hour early to get to my cooled office, at first I was just going to hang out but I got a lot of work done and I do not mind working extra if it meant cooling off! I will most likely stay late too...

I told my co-worker that I was running late this morning because I underestimated the time it'd take to fry one on my windowsill.

... that Deval Patrick thought his poll numbers were going up, but sadly it was just the thermometer.

... that people started going into the Park Street T station to get out of the heat.

... that Officer Crowley and Professor Gates went out for another round of beers.

... that Theo Epstein traded Dice-K to the Mariners for a large Slurpee and a second-string utility infielder. (A good trade, even without the infielder.)

... that the Back Bay neighborhood association demanded more restaurants with outside seating.
