Man convicted of gunning down teenager on Ellington Street in Dorchester in 2022

Update, 11/13/24: Sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today found Zontre Mack, 21, of Canton, guilty of first-degree murder for the way he killed 15-year-old Curtis Ashford Jr. on July 27, 2022, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Judge Mary Ames will formally sentence Mack on Oct. 23, although the conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life without parole - subject to a review by the Supreme Judicial Court.

A second man, Dominick Gavin, got three to four years in state prison after he pleaded guilty in August to being an accessory after the fact.

According to the DA's office:

Surveillance video and witness accounts showed Mack and Gavin arriving in the Ellington Street area at about 7:30 p.m. on July 27, 2022 in a vehicle driven by Gavin. Mack, who was 18 at the time of the shooting, then left the vehicle and fired multiple shots at a group of individuals, including Curtis Ashford Jr., gathered on Ellington Street. The group fled upon hearing the shots. Ashford was hit while trying to get away. Boston police located the vehicle driven by Gavin and gathered evidence, including DNA and fingerprints matched to Mack.
