First lesson in burglary school: Always have an escape route

Boston Police report a Dorchester homeowner and his son were able to tackle and sit on an alleged burglary suspect until police arrived in part because the guy had trouble getting out of the house he'd just broken into.

Police say the Sudan Street homeowner awoke to a loud noise around 2 a.m. on Tuesday. When he went downstairs, police say, he saw a man standing there.

Police say the homeowner yelled at the guy, demanding to know what he was doing. The man then began trying to get out the front door, but couldn't, because it was locked (police do not say how he allegedly got in the house). He finally just ran through the glass portion of the door. But the homeowner and his son chased him down and tackled him down the street, holding him until police arrived.

Kevin Murphy, 27, was arrested on a charge of breaking and entering in the nighttime and willful and malicious destruction of property.

Innocent, etc.
