Stabbed to death outside an Allston convenience store

Boston Police report a man was stabbed outside the Tedeschi at Brighton and Harvard avenues shortly after 2 a.m. The victim, described only as a black male, 24, was taken to Beth Israel Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say a patrolling officer spotted a group of people and when he asked them what was up, they pointed him to the victim lying there on the ground. Police say he attempted CPR on the victim.

He is Boston's 43rd murder victim this year.

It's not possible that all of these people were standing around watching a man die and that the officer was the first person to call for help, right? I ask this because there was no mention of 911 call in the report.

it doesn't say how his attention was drawn. Maybe someone in the group flagged him down, something far quicker than calling 911.

Maybe he happened upon the scene right after it happened. Or maybe somebody called 911 but he got there as the first call was coming in - so before he could be notified. Or maybe whoever wrote up the BPDNews account just didn't include that part. Because I'm thinking if there's one intersection in Boston where there would be plenty of people around at that hour, at least one with a cell phone and the sense to dial 911, it's that one.

Just because it happened on Brighton Avenue, doesn't mean it happened in Brighton.

Trying to convince people that Allston and Brighton aren't the same thing isn't worth the trouble. Although I do still speak up whenever people think it isn't part of Boston.

Hooray for Channel 4 (you can still see the original neighborhood in the URL for their story). The Globe still has it as Brighton.

Also, as somebody informed me, that store is a Tedeschi now, not a Store 24. Snarkers in glass houses shouldn't throw stones; as penance, I will go rake some leaves.

Since when is 2:16AM "shortly" after midnight? From the linked source:

"On Sunday, November 8, 2009, at approximately 2:16am, a Boston Police Officer, assigned out of Area D-14 (Brighton), was patrolling in the area of Brighton Avenue at Harvard Avenue when his attention was drawn to several people in the area. The officer spoke with a couple of the individuals and learned that there was a man down on the ground in front of the convenience store located at 157 Brighton Avenue."

I misread 2:16 a.m. for 12:16 a.m. I've fixed it. Thanks for pointing that out.

Boston Police report charging Corey D. Patterson, 23, of Dorchester with accessory to murder after the fact, several counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

So sounds like there was a brawl going on, no?

I saw this happen last night while trying to catch a cab. A lot of people rushed to this section of the corner I was at, and I thought it was a fight, so I ran there as well to see what was going on. Apparently 2 cars of people had stopped and got out of the cars to fight these people who were on the street. There was a lot of confusion, it happened real fast. The guy got stabbed around the corner, my view was blocked for that part, then jogged onto the corner where everyone was standing. he was kind of bouncing around the corner - he had a white T on that was completely covered in blood that was gushing out of his side. Someone said he got shot and there was a minor panic in the crowd thinking there would be gunshots, then someone said he got stabbed. He was still kind of jogging around the corner looking really confused and then just dropped. He 1/2 got up and kinda stumbled around and then dropped again on the edge of the corner on his back and laid there. the cops were there within a minute, and the whole thing lasted under 45 seconds from the time he was stabbed to the time he was laid out. There were a lot of people who saw it, at least 20 people on the corner including myself, were within 10 feet of all this the entire time. There really wasn't much time to call the cops, he seemed fine weirdly enough (besides all the blood) until he fell, and then a few seconds after he fell there were cop cars there. I didn't see the guy who stabbed him, or him actually getting stabbed, or what led up to him getting stabbed, but when he was finally laid out it was pretty obvious he wasn't going to make it.

did you see who stabbed him? what happened to that guy - did he just run away? did anyone think to take a picture of him with their phone? Did anyone try and help the victim and/or attend to his wounds?

Great job "watching" a murder.

And had you been there, you would have been thinking clearly enough to either stop the murder or take a picture of the murderer? seems unlikely. this stuff happens way too fast to have a second to think about the situation
