Manhunt on for murderers of pizza delivery man

A pizza-delivery man in his 50s was stabbed to death at 742 Hyde Park Ave. in Roslindale shortly before midnight by two men and a woman, who stole his car and then abandoned it behind a church a couple miles away in Hyde Park, police say.

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, speaking near the car behind St. Adalbart Church on River Street this morning, said evidence at the murder scene and in the car should help police find the trio even though they have fled the area.

Davis said the three broke into the Hyde Park Avenue house - which has been vacant for about a year - then called a local Domino's for a pizza. When the delivery man, not identified pending notification of his next of kind, arrived, they attacked and killed him.

Davis said somebody who had seen initial media reports about his Subaru wagon noticed it in the church parking lot and called police around 8:30 a.m.

You just killed a man for an asset worth less than $3,000. You may have been better off donning a Red Sox cap and knocking over your local bank vault. Capital work guys, just capital.

You had to kill him to steal his car?

He was a pizza delivery driver. You're rollin' big now in that 190,000-mile 1995 subaru wagon with a fat wad of ones and fives.

Cowards.

Not to make lite of this terrible situation but didn't this happen on an early episode of Law and Order? On the show the teens killed a person just for the fun of it / to see how it would feel.

I hope they find these killers and lock them away for ever.

A couple teenagers had killed two pizza delivery men out in the country, and I think that story made it to Law and Order, except the killers were probably rewritten as prep school girls.

On the First 48 generally one kills the other because "he smoked my crack", which means the takeout delivery man is carrying more than enough money to be a target for murder.

I remember that episode too. Actually, when I read the article that's what I immediately thought of. Wonder if that's where these monsters got their idea . . . cable channels run old episodes of that show constantly.

Sounds like they have some solid leads. I have to wonder whats going on in their heads to commit such a needless murder. Unless the delivery guy put up a fierce fight its almost unconceivable how you go from mugging to a knife slaying. A pizza guy was robbed at an abandoned house on my street (South in Roslindale) last year but thankfully he lived.

Mayor Menino has let Hyde Park go to hell. Every other neighborhood has gotten better and Hyde Park has been left to rot. It never was like this and at one time Boston Magazine had it as the safest neighborhood.

Considering that he lives there, wouldn't he have more incentive to favor it over other neighborhoods?

That's why he doesn't do more for Hyde Park - so as not to be accused of favoring his own neighborhood at the expense of others.

Heard from a local real-estate broker the house is really in Roslindale. USPS confirms it has an 02131 Zip code (I originally went with Hyde Park because Google Maps said 02136).

... as the crow flies.

It's definitely in the gray area - I know people who live on the side streets behind that side of Hyde Park Ave who say they live in Hyde Park, but the other side of the street is Roslindale...

his neighborhood is just out of the reach of the violence. quiet little neighborhood with small one family houses. sounds like a lot of the trouble is over along hyde park ave and river street.

i had heard that during the reconstruction of a lot of the cities housing projects famlies had been relocated and this has caused a lot of clashes amongs rivals. i think they just finished the project on washington st in that area. maybe its just a bunch of unfamiliar kids living in a new neighborhood and trying to make names for themselves?

either way, im sorry ofr the pizza guys family. such a waste of life for so little.

Couple of things:

It's not finished and that large building on the corner is mainly for seniors, so it's a bit early to start looking at Washington-Beech as a possible violence hotspot. Most of the tenants are/will be existing Washington-Beech tenants who were moved out for construction. And although it's not far, as the crow flies, from Hyde Park Avenue, it's really a world apart - they don't make it easy to get to the other side of the train tracks.

Also, Menino's had some violence right near his house.

Police arrest three suspects in stabbing death of Hyde Park pizza delivery man

http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/201...

Police sources said investigators found "a lot of evidence" in the vehicle and detectives worked around the clock to make the arrests.

Nova was an immigrant from the Dominican Republic who lived alone and worked several jobs. He lived about 3 miles from the house where he was killed.
