Woman pistol whipped in robbery near Ashmont station; victim's phone leads police right to suspects

Two teens who robbed two women - and pistol whipped one of them - near Ashmont station early this morning were arrested not long after when police activated the tracking app on one of the phones.

Boston Police report the teens, one male, one female, both 17, attacked two women around 1:10 a.m. on Alban Street. They beat one in the head with a gun and took their phones and a purse before hopping on the Mattapan Line, police say.

Using the "Track My iPhone" app from one of the officer's cellphones, the officers and the victims were able to track one of the stolen phones to the area of Bushnell and Van Winkle Streets, where the phone appeared to be traveling along the path of the MBTA Red Line trolley route toward Mattapan Square.

Officers met the trolley at the end of the line:

As they boarded the trolley entering the station, observed two suspects fitting the broadcast descriptions carrying the victims' property. Officers performed a pat frisk of the male and recovered a black painted air-soft gun in the suspect’s waistband. Both suspects were positively identified, and officers recovered all of the victims’ stolen property.

The victim who was beaten was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The teens were both charged with being delinquent for armed robbery, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and receiving stolen goods.

Trolly's make for great get away vehicles. Hopefully they'll get their GED's at the Junction.

Mocks someone's intelligence; proceeds to type the grammatical abominations "trolly's" and "GED's", and misspells "getaway".

Almost makes you long for the good old days of male-on-male gangland executions. But I guess those days are still with us as well.

Half of the robbers were female this time.

What a damn fool thug. Can't these thugs remember that they might be shot by police or others with guns, and it would be their own damn fault. Actually, I wish they would have been shot.

Only a handful of people have unrestricted LTCs and the criminals know it.

Great job by BPD, I can't imagine how dangerous it is for officers to board a train looking for a thug with a gun. If they shot him protestors would have shut down the T

Execute them both for the armed robbery.

Or would summary execution at dawn outside your chambers suffice?

But they were caught red-handed with the stolen property and with a firearm. What further evidence do we need that this was an armed robbery?

The only defense the robbers could possibly have is that they didn't pull the gun on her directly, or that they're mentally disabled. Hopefully, as cameras become more prevalent, we can nip a lot of one person's word against another's in the bud with video evidence.

"Your honor, she gave me that phone to keep. If she says I stole it, she's lyin'"

Will stop liars in their tracks. I envision a future where we record our daily activities for security purposes (going off the grid for sleep and getting laid and other private stuff), with the footage stored centrally should it be needed as evidence in a scenario like this.

Big Brother is creepy when the government does it, but when harnessed for private use, is going to force a lot of honesty.

It wasn't actually a real firearm if you read the article.... However they must be extremely stupid, I mean who doesn't understand that unless it's a cell phone from a previous decade or two all these new phones have gps smh idiots

It's Alban Street, not road. I'm not usually so nitpicky, but that was home for eight wonderful years!

Always sad to see this stuff happen in my old neighborhood. Also saddened by the tone of all these comments.

Well, the "road" thing, at any rate.

No "innocent, etc"?

Therefore, no names are associated with the alleged thieves.

Behavior like this is becoming morecommon now among teens in Boston . Who the hell wants to hire someone like that? They have no future.

This is my daughter's roommate. Saddened to hear this, especially because I was nervous about her moving to that area, but Alban St. and the neighbors are lovely. I'm thrilled they were apprehended so quickly! My daughter will be carrying her mace--ALWAYS!!!

...the criminal mind. You have a gun. You apparently just want to rob someone. What does adding an assualt and battery charge do for them? I know, I know... I'm asking rational questions about the scum of the earth.

Also, any "teen" who commits a violent crime should be tried as an adult. Go have fun with the lifers.

Just eliminate the current system that automatically gives suspects special distinction and treatment due to their age. Instead, treat suspects soley based on the severity of the crimes they're charged with. Once the perps get the word that "Oh, they're treating this seriously and I could be in for some serious punishment (as opposed to the "slap on the wrist and sealed record" treatment juvies get)", then they'll get the idea pretty soon that robbing people with a gun isn't a cool thing to do.

And if little Johnny's attorney wants to argue "But my client didn't know better" or "But my client can't control his impulses", let him/her do that during the trial.

Great idea. Because as we all know, adults never rob people with guns.
