Police: Officers arrest man running away from them with a loaded gun without firing a shot

Boston Police report that when officers responded to a report of a fight and gunfire this morning, a man peeled off in car and led them on a high-speed chase for two miles before jumping out of his car and running away with a gun in his hand.

Officers pursued the suspect into the rear of [96 Harvard St.] where the suspect discarded the firearm by throwing it onto the roof of the residence. Officers were eventually able to apprehend the suspect and recovered the loaded Walther PK380 semi-automatic firearm.

Khamal McCalop now faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm and a variety of motor-vehicle infractions. His gun charges could bring higher penalties because he was also charged as an armed career criminal.

Police say members of the gang unit responded to Blue Hill Avenue and Dewey Street around 9:30 a.m. on a report of a fight ending in gunfire:

The suspect then attempted to evade officers by operating his vehicle at a high rate of speed and ignoring several traffic signals and signs, in the process crashing into and causing damage to several vehicles along his flight path. The suspect continued to flee in his car across two police districts until he reached the area of 96 Harvard Street in Dorchester, almost two miles from the original scene, where he jumped from the moving vehicle. The suspect's vehicle came to a stop after colliding with a parked car.

Innocent, etc.

Is the finest force in the nation. That shows a tremendous amount of restrain, especially after one of their best officers was shot in the face by a career thug.

It is one of the most corrupt police departments in the nation. The #1 in misconduct settlements and they state for the record they do no have a misconduct problem.

Serious charges. Might be nice to point to some credible supporting evidence.

If there was a national pageant for Best Police Department in the Country.. how easily would the BPD win?

they showed a lot of restraint seeing as this guy endangered many lives. Although somewhat different (this guy lived and no mention in this story of him intentionally trying to hurt people) this story came to mind. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/tyler-comstock-killing-iowa-police-shoot-una...

Maybe it's just me (I haven't seen any statistics) but the BPD seems to do a remarkable - for 2015, anyway - job of resolving potentially dangerous situations without killing people. I was amazed at the incident over the winter in JP where a suspect actually fired a gun at officers and they still managed to arrest-not-kill him.

Seems like a lot of police departments around the country could learn something from our local force.
