Police: Gun suspect on bike tries to escape; pedals into back of a cruiser

Boston Police report drug officers conducting an investigation heard a report of shots fired near Cabot Street around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday:

A description of the shooter was also broadcast, and a short time later, DCU officers observed a suspect fitting the description riding a bicycle nearby [at Parker Street and Annunciation Road]. Without exiting their cruiser, the officers attempted to engage the individual, who began to frantically look in all directions as if searching for an escape route. So focused on finding a way to avoid the officers was the suspect, that he rode his bike directly into the rear passenger’s side of the officers’ cruiser.

Due to the individual’s nervous demeanor, frantic actions, vicinity to the shots fired call, and physical description, the officers frisked the suspect for weapons. Officers detected a firearm in the suspect’s back pants pocket and recovered a loaded black Titan .25 caliber handgun.

Evan Burton, 33, of Dorchester, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm and being an armed career criminal.

I sure as hell would have.

Duly filed under "no one ever said (alleged) criminals were smart".

The line is actually "But who said criminals were smart?"

Chief Inspector Daniels - from The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974)

I'm sure that you're right - I was merely repeating what I routinely heard during years of work with MSP personnel.

Either way, in most cases, I think that the sentiment is correct.

And I agree about the sentiment.

let's hope that dangerous bicycle gets destroyed too. Yea, yeah, bicycles aren't dangerous, its the people who ride them into cars who are dangerous, I know.

Bikes don't run red lights, people run red lights.

The door of the cop car - was it marked like a traffic cone? Where were the cop's parents? Was the police car legally imported?

Oh, wait. This wasn't a drunk or habitually reckless driver murdering a child. You only make excuses upon excuses for such special drivers. Idiot on a bike hits a door = vastly much more dangerous!

Your map shows a location on the Wentworth Institute of Technology campus, but that is not where Cabot Street is.

I left out a key piece of information: The stop and arrest was at Parker and Annunciation, not Cabot. Sorry about that.
