Man hunted for St. Botolph Street carjacking and car fire

Boston Police report a woman parking her car at St. Botolph and Cumberland streets around 9:40 a.m. found herself under attack by a man who opened her door:

The suspect initially attempted to push the victim into the car as he entered but the victim struggled at which time the suspect pulled the victim out of the car and she was able to break free and run away. The vehicle was later located in the rear 78 Peterborough Street where it had been set on fire.

He's described as black, with short, curly black hair and wearing a light gray or blue short-sleeved shirt.

That is certainly a brazen criminal act. Seems like a lot of trouble to go through if you're not actually planning to take the car, which leaves the disturbing idea that harming the driver was the goal. Glad she got away.

Now that I've seen the full report, I realize the only logical response to my comment, above, is a resounding "duh!" Never mind! Scary.

It was probably used in a crime between the carjacking and the torching. The police probably just haven't put the two acts together yet.
