If you can't do the time, then don't wear the lime

A man charged with armed robbery of a Roxbury market was caught in a courthouse lockup trying to rip up the distinctive lime-green, blue and yellow sneakers that helped ID him and flush them down a toilet, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Randy Broxton, 30, was arraigned today in Roxbury Municipal Court for the armed robbery of Brown Market, 194 Dudley St. The DA's office charges:

A security camera inside the store captured one suspect walk inside and point a semiautomatic firearm at the store’s clerk and then a second man walk behind the counter and retrieve cash and two cartons of Newport cigarettes. The second man wore a black-and-white checkered coat with a hood and distinctive lime-green, blue, and yellow sneakers.

According to the DA's office, Broxton was in a lockup in South Boston Municipal Court awaiting arraignment on an unrelated breaking-and-entering charge on Dec. 31, when BPD detectives connected him to the Dec. 27 robbery at the Roxbury market.

Braxton somehow learned detectives wanted to seize his sneakers as evidence, the DA's office says:

Broxton was observed by court officers attempting to destroy the sneakers by ripping pieces of the shoes apart and flushing them down the toilet of his cell, prosecutors said. Broxton’s alleged actions were captured by a camera inside the courthouse. At the order of a judge, the damaged sneakers were secured while detectives obtained a warrant to seize them.

In addition to the robbery and the South Boston B&E charge, Broxton also faces a Roxbury B&E charge. His bail on the Roxbury B&E case has been revoked, so he won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
