Police: Carjackers drag sleeping man out of his SUV; he borrows a scooter to look for them

Boston Police report a man on a scooter officers started following early this morning because he was riding around Roxbury without a helmet turned out to be a carjacking victim looking for the guys who stole his SUV.

Police say gang officers spotted the scooter rider around 1 a.m. today at Humboldt Avenue and Waumbeck Street and started after him to issue him a ticket for riding without a helmet. But he turned into Trotter Park, where they lost him.

Then, police say, two guys emerged from the park, running. Nobody's supposed to be in the park that late, so the officers stopped them because they were trespassing after dark. And then:

Officers recovered a large black Bowie knife from the first male, later identified as 25-year-old Cody Brown of Dorchester. As officers spoke with the males, they were approached by the unknown male on the scooter whom they had originally followed into the park. The male on the scooter explained to officers that the males they had stopped had carjacked him earlier in the evening. The victim reported that while asleep in his SUV, the males had dragged him out by his shirt, assaulted him, and then drove away in the victim’s vehicle. The victim stated he then went to his friend’s house, borrowed his scooter, and was out looking for the suspects when the officers stopped them in the park. Officers recovered the car key to the victim’s vehicle in Brown’s pants pocket.

Brown and Raquawn Givens, 20, also of Dorchester, were both charged with armed carjacking and trespassing. Brown was also charged with unlawfully carrying a dangerous weapon. Givens was charged with possession of a Class C drug with intent to distribute for the plastic bag with more than 20 Xanax pills police say officers found on him.

Innocent, etc.

The friend who loaned the scooter is a true friend. Glad he didn't give him a weapon and didn't charge the victim for anything petty.
