Arlington man charged as one-man crime wave in Charlestown, Somerville

An Arlington man was arrested last night on charges he carjacked a car in Charlestown, then robbed somebody in Somerville.

Boston Police report a Charlestown resident had just started his car in the parking lot of the Santander Bank on Rutherford Avenue around 8:30 p.m. when Jonathan Daniell, 28, opened the driver's side door and yelled "Get out! I need your car!"

The driver got out, because Daniell had his hand under his hoodie, crooked to make it look like he had a gun, police say And then:

The suspect drove away at a high rate of speed, nearly causing an accident as he pulled out into traffic. A short time later, officers assigned to a city wide tactical car observed the vehicle on Cambridge Street and attempted to pull it over. Additional responding units were eventually able to block in the vehicle and remove the driver without further incident in the area of 33 Parker Street in Somerville. As the officers were placing the suspect in custody, they carefully removed several hypodermic needles and $139.00 in cash from the suspect’s pockets. No firearm was located or recovered from the suspect or the vehicle.

Police say that as they were getting ready to bring Daniell in for booking, Somerville Police officers arrived on scene and said he matched the description of a suspect for an armed robbery at 4 Broadway:

When asked if he had just robbed someone, the suspect replied, “Yeah.” In a coordinated effort by both agencies, the suspect was positively identified in each incident. Officers later determined that the suspect’s license had been suspended and that he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for drug related offenses.

Daniell has a record that includes arrests dating to at least 2010 on drug charges.

Innocent, etc.
