Police: Woman bites, kicks, punches commuter-rail conductor, then threatens to stab him

Transit Police report arresting a Sharon woman they say objected to a conductor's attempt to collect her fare by attacking him.

Police say Emma Bloom, 23, of Sharon, was on an outbound train around 10 p.m. when the conductor came to her to collect her fare. When she refused, they say, he told her she'd have to get off the train.

Bloom responded by physically attacking the conductor, kicking, punching and biting him. At one point during Bloom's assault it is alleged she produced a folding knife and began to threaten to stab the conductor.

Bloom now faces arraignment in West Roxbury Municipal Court on charges of assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon - her shod foot.

Innocent, etc.

I hope they go easy on her.

Sarcasm off.

Seriously, she probably has a serious mental illness(s).

she has quite a few previous arrests. I wonder where she was going; the Providence line, that stops in Sharon, does not go through Readville.

I feel for her; what she did was totally unacceptable but the conductor threatening to kick her off at 10:00pm at night at Readville (which is pretty desolate at night;don't know if I agree with this) might of made her loose it.

If you can't pay your fare, you get kicked off at the next stop - it doesn't matter where that stop is or what time of day it is.

the commuter rail a lot, daily in fact, and have ridden at a late hour. Most conductors that I have witnessed give a warning; I have yet to see one kick someone off the train.

I am not such a hard-ass, I guess. I would not kick a mentally disturbed person or a person in distress off the train; I would call the police #1 and let them handle it. And I would definitely not kick a woman off the train at 10:00pm at Readville, distressed or not.

Until about a year and a half ago or so I rode the commuter rail daily as well. Both during commute hours and on weekends (often at even later hours than 10 pm).

And not only have I seen patrons kicked off of trains, I've been kicked off a train. Was running late for my Newburyport train, and barely caught it sprinting across North Station. Decided I'd just buy my ticket on board (I didn't have a pass at that point) since I obviously didn't have time to buy it in the station, but I totally forgot that I didn't actually have any cash. Conductor kicked me off at Chelsea, and since it was a weekend, so trains are only once every 3 hours, I wasn't too happy.

I have seen conductors not allow regular scofflaws on the train (a person who may have a history of non payment). But, more times than not, the conductors have been generous with those who "forgot their pass" or who were short in cash.

Again, and it is only me, I would not kick off a woman off a train at 10:00pm at Readville. And if she was a "regular", someone the conductors knew had a problem with payment, I still would of called the cops and had them escort her off.

To give her a full psych evaluation before he asked for the fare. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened all the time.

but doesn't (normally) stop there. I'd assume she got on at South Station, Back Bay, or Ruggles, and might have been kicked off at the next scheduled stop (Route 128) if she hadn't attacked the conductor.

Which does stop at Readville, and for which the T was reporting delays last night due to "an unruly passenger." I've asked Transit Police which line. If I get an answer, I'll post.

or anytime near then. But it might have been delayed if a Providence Line train had to make an unscheduled stop there.

Providence Line goes to Sharon; Franklin Line does not.

pass through around 9:18pm.

Every single run.

Now, whether or not they stop is another thing. To be honest, in my very quick first read of this I thought the halted at Forest Hills, but is tougher but doable.

And I have no sympathy for this woman. There's no reason to get violent in a situation like that. She might need serious mental health care, but no sympathy still.

She clearly needs help, but I'm not going to blame the conductor. Nobody asks to be assaulted any more than they ask to be robbed. That's akin to blaming women for being raped.

My boyfriend is a conductor. According to management, if a passenger refuses to pay, then conductors are not allowed to call the cops or kick them off the train. But if a fare-evader is allowed to ride without incident, another passenger can file a complaint and have the conductor brought up on disciplinary action for "not protecting the revenue." It's a lose-lose situation; most people just want to keep their jobs.

Also this and this.

I hope she can straighten her life out, as (if her LinkedIn profile is accurate) she's quite smart and attended an elite college.

I typed "Emma Bloom" Sharon into Google. That's considered stalking?

....it's joking. I don't think you're actually a stalker. I admit I don't google the people who show up in these articles -- let alone post the results -- although that's been done pretty regularly here. Usually to highlight some pattern in someone's behavior or to show them being a douchebag somewhere else. I guess it's mildly interesting that this person, like many others, has a track record of bizarre behavior that's left a mark.

It was a franklin line train.

I was on that train last night. Got off at readville. Noticed the train was standing by so I had my dad wait to see what was going on. I could see her pacing through the train holding a pizza. I then hear screaming and what sounds like metal banging coming from the platform. I then see a woman running down the stairs at the station on her phone crying. The train is still standing by. The woman disappears. 2 staties and 2 TPD cruisers show up. This woman tries to ask us for help but at this point (Windows were UP!) I told my dad to lock the door and get the hell out of there.
