New Hampshire bank-robbery suspect arrested after five-hour stand off in South Boston

Gingras

Boston Police report arresting a man and seizing a loaded assault rifle early this morning at 9 Orton Marotta Way.

Police say they learned around 9:15 p.m. that Stephen Gingras, 39, of Manchester, NH, wanted for robbing a bank in Salem, NH last week, might be holed up there.

Officers confirmed that the suspect was inside and moved in to place him in custody. As the SWAT Team made entry, the suspect attempted to jump out of a second story window, then retreated inside and barricaded himself.

Police say several hours of negotiation failed and around 2:40 a.m., the SWAT team forced their way into the apartment and arrested Gingras and seized a fully loaded "Century Arms Inc rifle with a large capacity magazine."

In addition to the New Hampshire charges, Gingras now faces Boston charges of being a fugitive from justice, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device.

Innocent, etc.

What is the chance that the BHA might, just might, kick the other occupants out of the unit (that me and you pay for) for harboring a fugitive? I'd say fairly slim.

Who says they're not the ones who tipped police to his location?

The guy was armed and is accused of a violent felony, after all. These guys always know which relatives that they can terrorize when they need something.

Seriously - would you kick them out if they guy showed up and threatened them/broke in? How, exactly, does a frail elder kick someone like this out?

Funny how you are all about harsh punishment - except when it involves a friend's kid spewing racist graffiti.

Graffiti versus Rifle / Fugitive / Bank Robber. I cannot see the similarities, perhaps you can or maybe you are just arguing because you don't like my comments overall.

Follow up on the Hull incident by the way. The girls all got probation, have to clean up the mess, and have to pay restitution, just like I said they would. They are being punished within the parameters of the law, just like our housing project friends should as well.

Let me know next time the BPD needs to respond with a SWAT team to apprehend a bunch of suburban teenagers with spray paint cans versus John Travolta in From Paris With Love holding up in the D Street Projects and maybe I will reconsider your take on things.

They missed a few charges there too. If you look at the BPD writeup, they have a picture of the actual gun. It's an AK-47 style SBR (short barrelled rifle). So, he's running afoul of the new "assault weapon" decree from comrade Healey, also SBRs are illegal in mass (without a special permit, so that's a separate charge), AND he's probably facing fed charges because I highly doubt he has the NFA stamp that are required for SBRs from the feds.

It's actually not a short barreled rifle. If you look at the Century Arms website, you can see that this weapon is marketed as a handgun. In a move that makes a mockery of federal firearms legislation, many manufacturers sell a version of their AR or AK based firearms with a barrel length that would require buyers to get a tax stamp to own them, but they're originally made with a pistol grip only -- no fixed or folding stock. Thus, taa-daa! It's a handgun!
