Two Rhode Islanders face gun charges after Uphams Corner traffic stop

Boston Police report gang officers making a traffic stop on Humphreys Street last night arrested the driver and his passenger after finding a loaded gun with a laser sight in the car and "a knife with a curved blade" on one of them.

Police say the officers pulled over a car on Humphreys near Dudley Street around 8:05 p.m. for a traffic violation. The driver, Armando Gomes, 30, of Pawtucket, RI, had a suspended license, police say.

As the officers were continuing their investigation, the front seat passenger, Allahmah Kuyateh, 22, of Providence, Rhode Island, suddenly exited the vehicle and attempted to push past one of the officers. Officers performed a pat frisk of the passenger at which time they recovered a knife with a curved blade from inside he pants pocket. Officers placed the passenger in custody with assistance from additional responding units after a brief struggle. The operator was placed in custody without incident. Once both suspects were secured, officers were able to locate and recover a loaded .45 caliber Springfield Armory ACP model SA-XD handgun fitted with a laser sight and a high capacity magazine from inside the vehicle.

Kuyateh was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, illegal possession of a knife and assault and battery on a police officer. Gomes was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a large-capacity feeding device and driving after suspension.

Innocent, etc.
