Man grabs boy's arm at Castle Island, State Police say

UPDATE: Bail set at $25,000 and Medina has to undergo a mental-health evaluation, per Suffolk County DA.

State Police report arresting a man they say grabbed a 12-year-old's arm near the restrooms at Castle Island yesterday afternoon.

State Police say Wilfin Medina, 29, approached a family near the restrooms around 3:25 p.m. and made "bizarre and non-sensical statement." The boy's mother asked him to leave, but instead, he grabbed the boy's arm, they say.

he woman then pushed the man away and told him not to touch her son. The man then walked away in the direction of a nearby playground.

A short time after responding, a Trooper located a man matching the description of the suspect. The man had a large rock in his hand when the Trooper approached him and claimed to know the woman and boy he had accosted. The suspect was placed into a cruiser, and the woman positively identified him.

Medina was charged with assault and battery, breach of the peace and attempt to commit a crime, State Police say.

Innocent, etc.

Good job Trooper

Clever use of the General Laws! Simple Assault and Battery is not an arrestable offense unless in the presence of an officer. Using the common law breach of the peace which is rarely done gives the trooper the right of arrest.

Its getting bad

The mentally ill and homeless around Downtown and South Boston were out in force this holiday weekend and seemed more aggressive than ever. I had to make two separate calls to 911 regarding threatening behavior in a span of 24 hours, and considered a 3rd call, but the group was gone just as quick as they appeared. This hopefully is not a sign of things to come, but I'm not holding my breath. The problem looks like its getting worse and not better.
