Police: Loaded gun found in car whose driver zoomed past a cruiser with his headlights off in the rain

Boston Police report a Lexington man was drunk early this morning when he sped past officers at a traffic stop on Blue Hill Avenue and that his Dorchester passenger had a loaded gun under her seat.

Police say officers were on Blue Hill Avenue near American Legion Highway around 2:10 a.m. talking to a driver about a traffic infraction - with their cruiser's blue lights on - when Jason Ayala, 37, of Lexington, drove by at roughly 50 m.p.h. in the rain with his headlights off.

Officers were able to stop the speeding vehicle a short distance away and were approaching to speak with the operator when they observed him leaning towards a female front seat passenger who was then observed reaching down towards the passenger compartment floor area. Officers removed the female passenger, Ana McGlashin-Lopez, 24, of Dorchester, at which time they recovered a loaded .40 caliber Taurus handgun from underneath the front passenger seat. Officers then removed the operator, Jason Ayala, 37, of Lexington, and placed both parties in custody without incident. Officers continued their investigation and observed that the operator appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and unsteady on his feet. Officers also recovered an open container of alcohol in the front center console of the vehicle.

Both people were chargedwith unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and carrying a loaded firearm. Ayala was also charged with OUI and negligent operation and was cited for violating the move-over and open container laws.

Innocent, etc.

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that Lexington address is his parents', not his.
