Man shot to death on Dorchester/Mattapan line

Victim identified as Emmanuel Molin, 32, of Taunton.

Boston Police report a man was shot around 3 a.m. outside 19 Johnston Rd., off Blue Hill Avenue, in Dorchester. The man, in his early 30s, was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

He is Boston's first murder victim of 2019.

Condolences to the victim, family and friends of the man. How did 2018 end up vs. 2017 on the Boston murder rate? I know it was a near tie around Christmas with a week to go.

And 2 of the 2017 57 were murders that occurred in previous years but classified as murders in 2017, so basically a tie.

Better than when we were going into triple digits, but between that time and this time I recall a 29 murder year. Big numbers or small numbers, it stinks for the dead and those who love them.

VICTIM IDENTIFIED: At about 3:05 AM, on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio call for a person shot in the area of 19 Johnston Road. On arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The victim has since been identified as Emmanuel Molin, 32, of Taunton.
