Allston man who keeps getting arrested on gun charges gets arrested on gun charges after gunfire in Dorchester, police say

Boston Police report arresting an Allston man on gun charges while he was standing across the street from where they were responding to a report of gunfire around 1:30 a.m. at 21 Balfour St. in Dorchester.

On arrival, officers observed a male standing across the street from where the shots were fired. The male appeared to be extremely nervous, breathing heavy and continually looking over his shoulder toward a motor vehicle parked on Dalkeith Street, a short distance away from the male and the shots fired incident. Officers continued their dialogue with the male who stated that he did not live in the area and that his car was parked on Dalkeith Street. Officers approached the motor vehicle and upon opening the passenger’s side door, immediately located a Glock 27 firearm loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition resting underneath the passenger’s seat. The suspect was placed under arrest. Additionally, officers recovered another firearm, a Smith and Wesson model 5906 loaded with ten rounds of live ammunition, from the rear middle seat of the motor vehicle.

Darrel Barboza, 36, of Allston was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, fourth offense, two counts of unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, fourth offense, and unlawful possession of ammunition, subsequent offense, police say.

Barboza was convicted in 2002 and 2004 of gun-related offenses. In 2010, he allegedly showed up at with a gun at a polling station in Allston during an election.

Innocent, etc.

We don't need more gun laws we need better judges and prosecutors.
The police are holding up their end, It's time the Courts did the same.

Judges too busy fighting off federal indictments to hand down sentences.

DAs too busy being woke to file charges.

State police too busy doctoring timesheets to hand out speeding tickets...maybe that's not so bad.

Good thing that even in liberal Massachusetts, for the most part your quality of life is only weakly correlated with the proper functioning of government agencies. Which is to say there aren't enough fourth offenders out there for BS like that to bite enough people. Yet.

States that are "tough on crime" also have some of the highest violent crime rates. You can hate Massachusetts (and/or it's politicians) all you want but in almost every single metric it's in the top five states in the US. You might wish that was unrelated to public policy but there's a strong correlation.

Mass spends a ton on education and healthcare which seems to be far more productive in keeping the overall rate of violent crime rates down compared to just shoving people in jail for the rest of their lives.

Enforcing gun laws and funding education are not mutually exclusive. We can continue to fund education AND enforce guns laws. Being caught with an illegal gun four times is absolutely ridiculous and it's only a matter of time before this guy kills someone.

Judges and prosecutors clean up the mess after it happens. If you want to stop “fourth offenses”, fix recidivism. Why did this guy feel compelled to do the same thing four times? How have we not shown him a better way?

Why is he walking about without a care in the world rather than serving the 10+ years MA law calls for? Why hasn't he been prosecuted by the feds for violating federal law for being a felon in possession?

Because he is a bad dude.
I know not to break gun laws and this knucklehead hasn't learned after being arrested 4 times for it, what do you suggest "we" do?
Do you think some life training is going to change this guys attitude?
