Man charged with trying to kidnap woman in Bay Village after she left a club

Boston Police report arresting a Dorchester man on charges he tried to force a woman into his car after she had gotten out because she didn't want to have anything to do with him.

Police report the man originally had a pal with him, but that that man ran away after he realized what Tony Santos, 31, was up to, shortly after 3 this morning.

Police say the woman had left a birthday party at a local club and that Santos was "a mutual friend," who had agreed to drive her home. But something quickly changed, and turned ugly on Winchester Street in Bay Village:

The victim stated that while she was in the backseat of the suspect’s vehicle, she told the suspect that she wanted to leave and when she attempted to exit, the suspect grabbed the victim and told her that she was going to leave with him. The victim again stated she wanted to leave and that she was going to order a rideshare to bring her home and when she attempted to exit, the suspect responded by grabbing the victim and pushing her up against a brick wall. The victim stated a second male who was present during the altercation disagreed with the suspect and fled the scene. The victim stated she overheard the suspect tell the other male that he was going to grab the victim again, causing the victim to call police.

Police say officers, arriving on the scene after a 911 call about a woman screaming, were getting out of their cruiser when the woman approached them:

While speaking with the victim, officers observed a black motor vehicle running with the driver’s door open inside of the parking lot across from where the victim was. While conducting a query of the vehicle, an unknown male appeared and ran toward the open driver’s door of the vehicle. Officers commanded the male to stop, but he refused. The male then entered the vehicle and fled the parking lot onto Arlington Street. The operator continued to flee from officers, violating numerous auto laws before coming to a stop inside a private lot on Warrenton Street.

Santos was charged with attempted kidnapping, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, negligent operation, failure to stop for police and speeding, police say.

Innocent, etc.

His friend ran away instead of helping the woman? What a man he is!

Devils advocate, maybe he ran to get help knowing he couldn't take the guy alone. Can't help anyone if you're unconscious on the ground. Not everyone is a fighter.

Maybe the guy who left is the same person who called 911.

Surprised there's no charge of driving under the influence, at that hour in that neighborhood with those circumstances. Scary situation.
