Gang unit arrests man for trying to shoot somebody in Dorchester early Sunday

Boston Police report arresting Jeffery Mendes, 24, for a burst of gunfire outside 23 Cameron St., off Hancock Street, around 4 a.m. on Sunday.
Mendes was aiming at somebody in particular, but missed, police say, adding a car had "ballistic damage."
Police say the gang unit focused on Mendes early on and arrested him yesterday on Bird Street, several blocks up Hancock from the gunfire scene. He was charged with attempted assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
