Numerous shots were fired, possibly in a gun battle, on Levant Street near Tebroc Street, shortly after 10 p.m. Live Boston reports a man showed up at Boston Medical Center several hours later with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The scene is just a short walk from where two men were shot, at Tebroc and Bowdoin streets, on Thursday.

BPD Operations is now sending officers to BMC where another shooting victim was just dropped off. They're speculating it's one of the victims from this scene.

With the "surge" long passed, when will Marty Walsh demand D.A. Rollins get tough on crime as his (Black) Police Commissioner has been asking for months? When will Walsh demand re-incarceration of those listed on the six pages of violent inmates released to freedom while the rest of us were locked down? When will Governor Baker demand a full reopening of the courts and publicly ask his judges to restore order and truth-in sentencing?

Police officers are human beings who did well on an exam one Saturday. Like other humans, when all of their hard work goes for naught and is undermined by elected officials and politically appointed judges, there is a tendency to give up. The good people of Dorchester, Roxbury, JP and all of Boston deserve much better. If Baker-Rollins-Walsh think this leniency is hurting Trump, it's hurting the vast majority of law abiding Black residents far more. The city and these neighborhoods are rapidly falling apart. It's long past time for serious action.

Getting tough on crime and inner city violence always meant lock more people up for longer sentences. Meanwhile this does nothing to curb the steady flow of illegal guns on to the streets nor does it actually deter the younger dudes to not follow in the footsteps of the "OGs".

I think it's obvious at this point that simply locking more people up doesn't make the people of Dorchester, Mattapan, Roxbury and JP any safer. Maybe we should revisit "Operation Ceasefire" and use what worked from that program.
