Hyde Park man charged with out-of-the-woods stabbing

Boston Police report charging a Hyde Park man for a stabbing so severe officers at first thought the victim had been shot with a nail gun because they found him with a thin piece of metal protruding from his back - which turned out to be the only visible part of the kitchen knife the suspect left in him.

Jeff Penn, 19, was arrested Friday afternoon on charges of assault on a person over 60 with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for the Aug. 7 attack on Christy Lane. At the time, police said the suspect came out of the woods near the victim's house and stabbed him. The victim, 65, was taken to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Penn was arrested after being pulled out of a car matching that seen leaving the scene, following an investigation that included search warrants for his house and two cars, police say. He is scheduled for arraignment on Monday in West Roxbury Municipal Court.
