Police charge man tried run over officers, punch his way out of an arrest in Dorchester
Boston Police report arresting a man who they say, on being ordered out of his car instead shifted into reverse, smashing into a cruiser and then, after police cornered his car, began punching officers trying to get him out Friday night.
Police say officers pulled over Eugene Parrish, 24, on Washington Street near Harvard Street around 9:45 p.m. as part of an unspecified investigation. A check revealed he did not have a valid license, police say.
Furthermore, as they were speaking with the operator, they observed what appeared to be the outline of a firearm protruding from underneath the sweatshirt of the front seat passenger, later identified as a 16-year-old male from Dorchester. When additional units arrived on scene, officers attempted to remove the operator, at which time he put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated towards the officers who were standing behind the suspect vehicle and a cruiser which was stationary with the emergency lights engaged. The suspect struck the cruiser, causing front end damage, then put his vehicle in drive, accelerating onto the sidewalk at a high rate of speed in an attempt to flee the traffic stop. The suspect vehicle then struck a motor vehicle before coming to a stop after striking a street sign pole in the area of 1 Waterlow Street.
As officers approached, they observed that the passenger was no longer inside the vehicle. When the officers opened the driver’s side door to remove the operator, a violent struggle ensued, with the suspect striking the officers several times as they attempted to place him in custody. The officers were eventually able to place the suspect under arrest while turning their attention to locating the passenger who had apparently fled on foot.
Police report officers found the kid nearby, but that he no longer had anything resembling a gun on him, and they could not find a gun in the path he appeared to have taken, so they eventually released him to the custody of a guardian.
Parrish was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, four counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, operating after revocation or suspension, driving to endanger, negligent operation and malicious destruction of property, police say.
Innocent, etc.
