Man arrested after shots fired on Heath Street

Boston Police report arresting a South Boston man and seizing a gun they found on him after gunfire along Heath Street across from the Mildred Hailey Apartment left three vehicles and one residence with fresh gunshot damage Tuesday night.

Police say E-13 officers were on patrol in the Mildred Hailey complex when they heard gunfire in the area of 123 Heath St. around 11:10 p.m.

Gang-unit officers who responded to their call for help spotted a guy running from the scene, with "an unknown heavy object concealed beneath the front of his hooded sweatshirt." He managed to get about a half mile, to Parker Hill Avenue, when they caught up with him, detained him and found, on frisking him, a 9-mm handgun in his waistband, police say, adding:

Officers noted that the 17-round magazine was completely empty.

Reymundo Ortiz, 23, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device, police say.

Innocent, etc.
