Sleeping man was packing a loaded gun and heroin at Downtown Crossing Orange Line stop, police say

Transit Police report waking up a Lynn man and arresting him on gun and drug charges at Downtown Crossing yesterday after a bystander watched a handgun fall out of his pocket while he was trying to get comfortable.

According to police, Jack Myette, 29, was asleep near the fare gates at the station around 11:40 a.m. when he rolled over. "When the male rolled over to switch sleeping positions a handgun fell out of his pocket," police say a witness told them. "The male simply placed the handgun back into his pocket."

Police say that officers who arrived not long after "recovered a loaded firearm, a 9mm with one in the chamber.. Also, "officers discovered what they believed to be heroin, repackaged for resale, and other non identified controlled narcotics from Myette's possession."

Myette was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of a Class A drug with intent to distribute, police say. Myette also had an outstanding warrant, issued in Boston Municipal Court, for carrying a dangerous weapon and trafficking cocaine and heroin, police say.
