Police: As officers were beginning to investigate fatal stabbing on Blue Hill Avenue, they found a guy with a loaded gun

Boston Police report arresting a Mattapan man a few minutes after and not far from where a man had been fatally stabbed at Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road.

Police say officers who were "establishing a crime scene" - basically lining the area around the stabbing scene with tape so investigators could work uninterrupted - when they noticed a man standing nearby "with his right arm pinned against the side of his body while clutching the waistband area of his pants." Then, police say:

The officers continued to observe the male as he began to walk away with his arm still pinned against his body. Upon seeing one of the officers approaching to speak with him, the suspect turned around and began to walk in the opposite direction. The officers were able to stop the suspect at which time they conducted a pat frisk, leading to the recovery of a holstered firearm from the waistband area of his pants. When the officers attempted to place the suspect in custody, he violently resisted but was eventually secured with assistance from additional units who were in the area.

Jalil Hartgrove, 19, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and carrying a loaded firearm for "the .32-caliber Colt Model 1903 ACP handgun loaded with one round of ammunition in the chamber and seven rounds in the magazine," police say officers found on him.

Innocent, etc.
