Student at East Boston charter school charged with bringing loaded gun with him

Boston Police report arresting a teen at Excel Academy, 401 Bremen St. in East Boston, on gun charges after school officials found a loaded gun in his backpack this afternoon.

Police say a school staffer found the 9-mm Highpoint gun with two rounds in a magazine shortly after 3 p.m. during a search of all students "in response to the sale of vape products on school property."

The student was charged with being delinquent for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm on school property and unlawful possession of ammunition.
