Drug dealers try to beat the heat, too: Man charged with selling heroin inside Macy's

Seized drugs and cash.

Not shown: The shirt.

Boston Police report arresting a man they say sold heroin inside the Downtown Crossing Macy's and that when he was done with that, tried to shoplift a new shirt, too.

Police say officers called to Macy's, 450 Washington St. on a call about a shoplifter around 12:45 p.m. on Friday met with store security officers who provided security footage of Edison Arias 29, of Dorchester, selling some heroin and then trying to make off with a $40 shirt.

Officers recovered $288.00 in USC and twenty-nine plastic bags of a brown powdery substance believed to be Heroin from the suspect.

Arias was charged with trafficking of 100 to 199 drugs of a Class A drug, distribution of a Class A drug and larceny under $50, police say.

Innocent, etc.

I guess you haven't noticed she isn't DA any more. If you have any complaints, direct them to Kevin Hayden.

You know who isn't DA anymore?

You know who kept prosecuting drug dealers when she was?

as they say. He probably wouldn't have gotten nabbed for the heroin if he hadn't shoplifted.

(I wonder if they also recommend not committing crimes in the first place?)

homeless people sleeping on the mattresses in Macy's. I suppose it may be a form of advertising. "Nothing makes me sleep more soundly than the Doperpedic."

I kinda like the image of over-heated unhoused people sleeping comfortably in an air conditioned Macy's. Not necessarily dope induced sleep but I'm tired of how poorly Boston electeds have done by addicts and/or people living outdoors. I was at Newmarket Sq Fri and seeing police wagons and DPW workers washing down the street again as all who spend their days and many their nights there were simply gathered on the corner waiting for the city workers to finish. One guy, who'd been stemming in traffic, wobbled on his crutches to a steaming median strip located planter and fell into it. It's such a sad and hopeless situation that's now persisting from Marty's tenure to Wu's.

You make it sound like its their fault.

It isn't. They are just dealing with the brunt of it.

I'll keep saying this until my lips bleed but..

this is a regional problem, and needs to be dealt with that way. Until that happens, Boston will always be like this. Wont matter who is Mayor, it will be like this until others help.

We cannot expect Boston to absorb all of these people and their issues. Other towns need to pony up $$ and open facilities in their town, instead of pushing it elsewhere.

You must not be a Macy's shopper.

He shoplifted on a Friday, which means it was start of their weekend sale. Cuz everyone knows, its not worth stepping foot in a Macys if its not a Friday or the weekend cuz the weekends is when the sales are.

It was prob 50 bucks after 20% off weekend sale, and an extra 10% for that preview. He might have even opened a Macys card for an extra 25% off.

I saw this whole thing go down while buying some lingerie. Well done Boston’s finest.

It's been moribund for years. I encourage buying there to save it, despite the ugly building

Don't worry, That building isn't going anywhere.

the datacenter that lives in the floors above Macy's owns the building, and the air rights over the building. Considering most of the internet for New England goes thru that datacenter, its unlikely that building is going anywhere anytime soon.

Macys may/could close but there'll always be some street level retail there. We won't end up with a Filene's hole part 2.

Worst case is Macy's closes and becomes offices (offices, not lab space, due to the ventilation requirements that would impede the data center above.)
