Barricaded man in Hyde Park taken into custody after firing a shot; police evacuated neighboring homes

A man armed with a rifle and a shotgun burst into his parents' home on Hopewell Road in Hyde Park around 3:35 a.m., fired at least one shot at arriving officers, then barricaded himself in until officers were able to take him into custody, unharmed, around 9:10 a.m.

Residents on the street were told to shelter in place as officers from Hyde Park and surrounding districts, SWAT officers and a negotiator swarmed to the street. Residents of neighboring houses were evacuated.

Before arriving at the Hopewell Road house, the man shot at a car belonging to a family member on a nearby street.
