A federal judge ruled today that Alvin "King Humble" Mojica of Worcester is too much of a flight risk to release on cocaine-distribution charges that could net him more than 10 years in prison and ordered him kept locked up pending his trial.

Federal agents and Boston and State Police yesterday started rounding up alleged members of the Norton/Olney/Barry Gang, whom they accuse of being a full-service gang that, when not busy shooting rivals, dealing drugs, pimping women and robbing people at gunpoint, made lots of rap videos, often featuring scenes from the neighborhood, sometimes on rival turf as a way to taunt other gangs. A federal judge today denied a request from David Wood of Dorchester that he be allowed to await trial on fentanyl and crack distribution charges because the existing conditions he says he has would put him at high risk for complications should he contract Covid-19. Read more.

A federal judge today rejected a request from an alleged leader of the Mattapan branch of the Latin Kings gang for pre-trial release because of Covid-19 concerns, saying there is no way she could release him without creating a potential danger to society. Read more.

The US Attorney's office in Boston today announced the indictments of 62 alleged members of Massachusetts chapters of the national Latin Kings gang on racketeering charges. Among them: Shaun "Rev" Harrison, sentenced to 23 to 26 years in prison last year for shooting an English High School student in the head because the kid owed him money for the marijuana Harrison was having him sell. A man caught with a gun during a BPD sweep after a double murder at Jamaica Plain's Mildred Hailey Apartments was sentenced today to 2 1/2 years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, the US Attorney's office reports. Read more.

A federal appeals court yesterday rejected a local MS-13 leader's argument that he "withdrew" from the gang once he was tossed in prison, saying that he continued to direct gang activities from behind prison walls - including ordering the murder of a member he thought had snitched. Read more.

Nelson "Inquieto" Cruz Rodriguez Cartagena, 25, was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison yesterday for his role in running an MS-13 "clique" in Everett, after which he will be subject to deportation to his native El Salvador, the US Attorney's office in Boston reports. Read more.

WFXT reports ICE agents went into the Chelsea and East Boston courts this week to arrest two men they say are here illegally and who were facing local charges - one an alleged MS-13 member, one an alleged member of the rival 18th Street Gang.

Luis "Brujo" Solis Vasquez, a member of a Chelsea MS-13 gang, was sentenced to 35 years in federal prison yesterday for his role in the murder of a rival gang member in an apartment on Chester Avenue in 2014, the US Attorney's office reports.

Massachusetts does not have a "stand your ground" law, and the Massachusetts Court of Appeals today rejected an attempt by an MS-13 leader convicted of a 2014 shooting in Chelsea to try to create a precedent for it.

Five alleged members of a North Shore MS-13 gang repeatedly stabbed a 17-year-old in a Lynn playground this summer because they thought he was ratting them out, the US Attorney's office said in announcing their indictments for murder. Read more.
