State rep charged with assault and battery after Dorchester block party

After attending and publicly praising a large, "peaceful loving" block party, state Rep. Carlos Henriquez of Dorchester was arrested on charges he attacked a woman in his car by Northeastern and wouldn't let her out.

The Dorchester Reporter reports the alleged incident happened on Forsyth Street around 4:30 a.m. Henriquez, who is active on social media, may have tried to tweet from the scene; his Twitter feed shows what appears to be an attempted tweet - only a period - at 4:37 a.m.

He faces arraignment Monday in Roxbury District Court on two counts of domestic assault and battery and charges of kidnapping, intimidation of a witness, and larceny from a person.

This is Henriquez's second car-related run-in with Boston Police. Last year, he had a confrontation (scroll down on that page) with officers during a traffic stop in which he was a passenger.

Henriquez, first elected in 2010 to represent parts of Dorchester and Roxbury, will likely face perennial also-ran Althea Garrison in this year's fall election.

Henriquez's last tweet.

Henriquez's last tweet; all he got out was a period.

Innocent, etc.

For the other side of the coin as evident from the typical UHub post.

Conservative = things I used to at least understand but increasingly find to be completely divorced from reality and rational thought and seem to be entirely based on racist, classist prejudices.

Liberal = things I frequently agree with when they're not just knee-jerk reactions to the above, superficial p.c. gestures to assuage someone's guilt over their privilege, or straight-up party politics.

Education and critical thinking skills = well, I'd like to think that all those damned college loans resulted in some sort of asset on that side of the ledger, but it's no guarantee.

UHub is generally more liberal/progressive as it tends to attract more, shall we say, rational people who like a good argument (not just contradiction!) and are more frequently working with this reality (hence not so Heraldy).

And then the sense of humor/sense of history part. Even the conservatives on here get off some funny posts and know their local lore. Ditto-heads typically wander away. Makes for good reading, even when you don't agree with the person.

Now about those goddamnedfuckingLibertarians....

If true I hope he either steps down or gets thrown the hell out. I think the legislature has the power to expel a member convicted of a felony- didn't they threaten to do that to Diane Wilkerson?

Hopefully if the charges are true. Don't want to pass judgement yet. The shame is he wasn't that bad of a state rep. I thought he had potential. It's really a shame.

Why do reps throw away their careers for stuff like this?

You need to be a sociopath egomaniac to want the job. (At least CEO's get a nice payday)

Henriquez was an aide to Chuck "Preacher's Handshake" Turner for awhile before he set out on his own path of abuse of power, er, I mean, battery. I mean, alleged battery. However well they play the game, true character eventually oozes out.

heard on other media, most of the charges make sense.

But I'm curious on the background of the "intimidation of a witness" charge.

During the two hours in the car, police said in the report, Henriquez allegedly seized Gonzalves’s cell phone and removed the battery and SIM card, rendering it useless to her, police said in the report.

This would make up the elements of that charge.
