Boston Police report the discovery of a basement at 29 Raven St. outfitted as a dog-fighting arena.

Police say responding officers, alerted by a plumber doing work at the address, found "a plywood-constructed dog fighting pit, several dog cages and blood on the walls and floor of the pit area," along with three dogs in cages, one dead, one seriously injured and the third in poor health.

The live dogs were removed by Boston Police and the MSPCA and are now being cared for by the Humane Society, police say, adding they expect to bring felony charges in connection with the investigation.

Stephen Walsh reports three people suffered smoke inhalation and burns at a fire on Clarkson Street in Dorchester that broke out around 6 p.m.

A three-alarm fire that broke out around 9 p.m. in a block of stores at 830 Blue Hill Ave. injured two firefighters, Walsh reports. Firefighters didn't declare the fire out until nearly 2:30 a.m.. The Globe reports the fire did $500,000 in damage.

Boston Police tweet a person was shot around 5:15 p.m. at 2020 Dorchester Ave., hurt seriously enough to be taken to Boston Medical Center in an ambulance.

Boston Police report an 18-year-old was found with gunshot wounds around 10:30 p.m. Thursday at 101 Pleasant St. He was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where he died.

The Globe reports a Suffolk Superior Court jury today found Manuel "Spank" Andrade guilty for the shooting death of the visiting Kentucky student outside a Geneva Avenue party on March 24, 2007.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Cornelius Brown, 34, of first-degree murder for the July 4th, 2007, murder of Michael Wiggins, 22, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office says.

Prosecutors charged Brown gunned down Wiggins during a fight at a family cookout. Barring appeal, he will now go to prison for the rest of his life.

Steven Odom, 13, died steps from his home because a gangbanger mistook him for a rival - ten days before the thug was himself gunned down, officials say.

"Though he will never go to trial, we're taking the unprecedented step of announcing that the evidence we've developed would support his conviction for Steven's homicide," Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley said this morning. "In short, if Charles Bunch, Jr., were alive today, we would be announcing his indictment for first-degree murder."

A second, still breathing, teen, was indicted yesterday in connection with Odom's death, which officials said was part of a beef with a rival gang. Conley said David Johnson, 19, owned the gun Bunch used to end Odom's life:

Kevin Clement, one of the two men charged with holding up a Dorchester credit union on Tuesday, lists "Prison Break" as one of his favorite TV shows on his Facebook page (along with "24" - and "Scarface" as one of his favorite movies). He lists his favorite quotations as "Stay real" and "Never snitch."

Clement and alleged accomplice Derrick Rogers were arrested Wednesday after, police say, they stole upwards of $200,000 from the Tremont Credit Union on Mt. Vernon St. by telling bank employees they had a bomb in a bag. Both are now being held in lieu of bail - $75,000 for Clement and $50,000 for Rogers.

The Dorchester Reporter reports they were nabbed on Warren Street in Roxbury when police, responding to a domestic-violence call, allegedly found the pair - along with large quantities of both marijuana and cash from the credit union.

Boston Police report two men didn't get to enjoy the $200,000 they allegedly got by telling tellers at a Dorchester credit union they had a bomb.

Kevin Clement, 23, and Derrick Rogers, 25, were arrested today for yesterday morning's holdup at the Tremont Credit Union on Mt. Vernon St.

By pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of JoJo Smith, Patrick Mayhew, 22, could walk out of prison in 15 years. He had been facing life without parole if he had gone to trial and been found guilty of first-degree murder.

At his sentencing today, Smith's family said they forgave Mayhew and hoped he will use his time behind bars to improve himself.

Quincy Butler and William Wood, both facing first-degree murder charges for the 2004 throat-slashing death of a Dorchester woman, will get a fourth trial following yet another mistrial declaration, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office vowed.

Judge Patrick Brady, who also presided over the pair's first two trials in the case, declared the Suffolk Superior Court jury deadlocked, 10-2 in favor of conviction, after five days of deliberations.

Boston Police today reported the names of the three people gunned down outside an after-hours party at 41 Mt. Ida Rd. in Dorchester early Sunday: Anthony Peoples, 19, of Boston, Shacora Gaines, 20, of Brockton and Chantal Palmer, 20, of Brockton.

According to her MySpace page, Gaines had two children, a 4-year-old daughter and an infant son. She described herself as a soca and reggae lover and wrote:

A Dorchester man was indicted today on charges he ran an illegal car-rental agency.

The state Attorney General's office reports that George Quinn, 70, was charged with 13 counts of insurance fraud and four counts of larceny over $250. Oh, and for good measure: four counts each of illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

Residents of Nelson Street in Dorchester are both scared and fighting mad about a Friday-night incident in which somebody gunning for a rooming house proved unable to fire accurately. Press Pass TV reports.
