State Police, of course, closed Morrissey Boulevard early this morning, which is what you can expect from a road built roughly two inches above sea level next to a bay. And that, naturally, meant shutting the exit to Morrissey off I-93 northbound.

At 7:59 a.m., Steve Bickerton tweeted:

Neponset Circle backed up Gallivan Blvd. to Eire Pub.

Michelle added:

Neponset Ave is a parking lot. 15 mins from Coffey Street to Lil Peach.

Meanwhile, upbay at Castle Island, Steve Brady reported:

The ocean is slowly devouring the Sugar Bowl, and the water is up to the sidewalk at parts of the causeway. Couldn't even see a hint of the harbor islands from the Sugar Bowl, either. Just the swollen ocean. Very eerie.

An Abington man was ordered to attend Narcotics Anonymous or AA meetings twice a week after prosecutors said he was drunk when he hit a toddler and a child in a stroller at Talbot and Dorchester avenues around 6 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office - which says the guy switched seats with his passenger before police arrived.

A man convicted of breaking into an ATM at a Meetinghouse Hill Bank branch in Dorchester in 2010 tried to have his sentence overturned because prosecutors failed to prove the ATM was a "depository" for which one could be charged with breaking into.

Nice try, the court told Christopher Doyle - who cited a single, unpublished Michigan ruling that defined "depository" - but if it walks like a duck, etc.:

The Massachusetts Appeals Court today overruled a lower-court judge and said prosecutors could use a loaded gun found in a space behind a car dashboard during a Dorchester traffic stop as evidence against the man charged with its illegal possession.

Ishmal Haynes was arrested on Nov. 8, 2009 in "a high crime area of the Dorchester section of Boston" after a state trooper and two Boston police officers spotted him making "several traffic violations" and a search of his car showed he'd stashed a loaded gun in a space behind the dashboard of his rented car.

Two Boston police officers who returned the fire of a man who started shooting at them on a Dorchester street in 2011 did nothing wrong, Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley says.

In a letter to Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis on the death of Tyrone Cummings following a gun battle on Dunbar Avenue on June 14, 2011, Conley says officers Shawn Marando and Timothy Denio:

The department says one of the injured residents suffered burns, the other smoke inhalation. Roughly 15-20 residents were displaced. One firefighter suffered facial burns, the other a groin injury.

Damage was estimated at $400,000; the cause remains under investigation.
