The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved replacing an industrial building at 27 Dixwell St., across from the Hernandez School in Egleston Square with a 12-unit residential building with 12 parking spaces. Read more.
Jamaica Plain News reports Boston officials are negotiating the purchase of the Washington Street lparcel that was long an informal park until Clear Channel put a fence around it to protect its all important billboard. Community groups had cared for the land for more than 20 years, turning it into a peace garden and taking care of things property owners would normally have to do, such as snow and trash removal.

Egleston Square residents had long made lemonade out of the ugly lemon of a billboard and its supports in the middle of Egleston Square by turning it into a mini-park with benches and a small free library. But Clear Channel, which blocked off the site with a fence a couple months ago has now put the small site up for sale, for $1.1 million, Jamaica Plain News reports.
Rasheem Christian got a mandatory sentence of life without parole yesterday following his conviction for first-degree murder for the 2013 death of Brianna Bigby, gunned down as she sat in a car in Egleston Square, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.
The T officially began service today on dedicated bus lanes that run down the center of Columbus Avenue between Egleston and Jackson Squares. The goal is to speed service on the routes that use Columbus - the 22, 29 and 44. The T is now looking at extending the dedicated lanes to Ruggles.

The Boston Housing Authority has filed plans for extensive renovations to Egleston Square's Doris Bunte Apartments, which used to be called Walnut Park Apartments, using a combination of new federal funding and tax credits for historic properties, which the city's tallest round apartment building now is.
Around 9:10 p.m., police found two attack victims in Egleston Square - a man who was stabbed on Westminster Avenue, near Waldren Road on the Roxbury side, and a man who was hit with a baseball bat and sliced with a knife on Washington Street on the Jamaica Plain side.
At Beethoven and Washington streets shortly after 10:30 p.m. A knife was recovered on Beethoven Street.

Live Boston reports that Boston police officers responding to a report of gunfire at 3114 Washington St., near School Street in Engleston Square, around 7:15 p.m on Saturday didn't find anybody with fresh bullet holes but did find "a large illegal gaming operation in the basement" of the VIP Barbershop.
Detectives were called to the scene as well as Boston Fire and Inspectional Services for numerous code and safety violations
