i grew up in everett during the late 60's/early 70's. it wasn't until i was a "joonyah in cawwledge" that i realized "draw" ended in "e-ah""ya shittin' me," i said, when my roomie clued me in, "theyah's an e-ah at the end of that word? no way!":)karen
I've been out of Boston for years and my accent has gone away for the most part, but the words "dresser drawer", always comes out of my mouth "dressa draw". My husband yells at me that you "draw" a picture and it's called a "draw-er". I too call it a bureau, and people think I'm trying to be above them when I talk, like I'm some kind of blue blood. The word "you're" still comes out yaw for me too. That's been the only sound that is still very bostonian for me.
I, too, have been out of Boston for years and my accent has gone away for the most part, but we always called it a bureau. The words hard for me to lose my accent on are "Martha's Vineyard" I just cannot physically say them any other way than "Mahtha's Vinyahd"
