Updated with news about another trolley getting snagged tonight.

A mechanism at the mouth of the Riverside Line's Fenway tunnel that is supposed to help protect the tunnel from flooding is now damaging some pantographs that power trolleys as they move between the underground and surface-level tracks. Read more.

The Heights reports a broken water main at Comm. Ave. and Lake Street disrupted traffic and the Green Line and forced businesses at the B Line terminal to shut down after water flooded their basement.

Whatever happened happened around 10 p.m. The T initially said a trolley derailed at Park Street, but then said, nope the trolley "split a switch" but didn't actually go off the rails. Photo of non-derailment switch splitting.

In either case, no injuries, but also no service between Arlington Street and North Station. Riders can use the Orange Line instead, the T says.

Wanted man

Transit Police report they are looking for a man they say snapped photos up women's skirts on a Green Line trolley between Hynes and Park Street around 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 14.

If the alleged upskirter looks familiar, contact detectives at 617-222-1050 or send an anonymous text tip to 873873.

Two-car crash on the Green Line

Sundaram had a ringside seat to watch the aftermath of a two-car crash right atop the B Line tracks at Strathmore Road shortly before 3 p.m. The crashed caused delays of up to 20 minutes on the line, although the T now reports service is back to normal.

Green Line B Branch Station Consolidation Announcement

WBZ reports the end of weekend bus diversions on the B Line as the T this morning opened its new Babcock Street and Amory Street stops, which replace four smaller stops along Commonwealth Avenue. The work finished several months ahead of schedule.

The MBTA advises that a dead trolley is gumming up the works on the E line inbound at the MFA. The 39 bus, meanwhile, just keeps rollin' along.

Green Line derailed near Heath

An E Line trolley leaving Heath didn't get far tonight after some of the wheels on a Type 8 car jumped the tracks, Ari Ofsevit reports.

The line is now starting and ending at Brigham Circle.

The National Transportation Safety Board reported today that its initial findings from Friday's B Line crash showed that an outbound trolley traveling at 30 m.p.h. plowed into the back of a trolley going just 10 m.p.h. at Pleasant Street. Read more.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced this morning it "is investigating the July 30, 2021, collision of two Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) light rail trains on MBTA's Green Line near Boston, Massachusetts."

Prediction: The NTSB will issue a report that concludes the MBTA needs to equip the Green Line with a "positive train control system," just like it does after every Green Line collision.

Green Line crashes in 2008 and 2009 - one fatal - slowly spurred the MBTA to hire contractors to equip the nation's oldest subway line with a system that would automatically brake trolleys whose operators run red lights or seem about to smash into another trolley and who disregard audible alarms to stop.
